The comparison of the registered houses and outside sources is open to the criticism, that the men do not always state correctly where the infection arose. The figures year by year are too consistant to allow of this factor being a

greet one. About 90% of those stating they contracted dissese in registered houses, correctly identify the source.

Those stating that they contracted disease from an outside

source practically never identify the source.

Comparison of the venereal incident rate among the Chinese

population and the civil population of England.

(a) Among 500 adult male coolies in the Government Civil

Hospital admitted for other diseases 27.4%

gave

definitely positive Wassermann reactions, and another

12.7% possible positive reactions.

The probable minimum syphilis rate of the Chinese community

is in the neighbourhood of 40%.

500 similar patients in the Kwong Wah Native Hospital 22.8%

admitted having had gonorrhoea.

(b) Among 1000 patients in the London Hospitel 10.3% of

the maler admitted for other diseases gave a positive

Wassermann reaction. The amount of venereal disease among Urban populations is estimated at 10% which is probably too low.
